I love movies, and I am dedicated to learning ways to improve my life. I had some fun in this post examining how elements of blockbuster movies may be applied to our lives for our own personal betterment and everyone around us.
Movie studios spend ten-of-millions of dollars to deliver an out-of-this-world experience for their audiences. They know the secrets to design an experience like no other, that gets the most out of the time you are in your seat. Well, many of those secret tricks can be applied to our lives to help us design a more dynamic life and improve each day.
Here are eleven life-changing hacks I learned from blockbuster movies to design a more dynamic life: Click to Read More
- Soundtracks: Blockbuster movies have powerful musical scores that make the movie absolutely incredible. The musical scores enhance the action, and every mood presented in the movie. Your job: You probably have a workout playlist on your phone, but do you have playlists for other times of the day and week? You can create playlists for doing deep work, relaxing, commuting, romantic times, mindfulness, and everything else. Building a soundtrack for your life is a great hack. Make a dull chore 1000x better with a good soundtrack.
- The Credits: Every blockbuster I have seen has a LOT of credits at the start and at the end of the film. They give credit to everyone! Your job: Make gratitude the first and last thing you do each day, week, and month. People who show gratitude are happier and live better lives. Don’t take credit, but rather, give it.
- Take 2: The best actors in the world rarely get it right the first time. They are going to keep filming UNTIL they get it right. Your job: Don’t quit. Keep trying. Don’t stop UNTIL you get it right.
- Camera Angles: It’s always amazing to see a new camera angle being used in a movie. It gives us a unique way to see the action and changes the story. A movie would be boring if it were shot entirely from one camera angle. Yawn! Your job: Start looking at life from multiple perspectives. Look at problems as opportunities. How would someone else see what I am looking at? How would I have seen this same situation five years ago? Five years from now?
- A Great Script: Blockbusters start off with an amazing plan called a script. It tells people what to say and everyone what to design. The script leads them through challenges and to the happy ending. Your job: I have seen people spend more time on a grocery list than a plan for their life. Write the script for your life in a journal. You can make changes, but you have to have a plan. Write down how you are going to overcome obstacles what you want to happen, locations, co-stars and all the things you want to experience. Get after it.
- Director: Blockbuster movies have someone in charge who is making big, bold decisions. The director assembles the best and comes up with a plan and sees it through. Your job: Either be the director of your life or find a co-director to help you out. Quit standing on the sidelines and waiting. Make some big, bold decisions and get awesome stuff accomplished, or find someone who will.
- Trailers: Blockbuster movies do an amazing job of capturing everything great about the movie and replaying it in front of people again and again. They never show the boring or bad parts of the movie. They capture and enhance all that is good. Your job: Quit beating yourself and replaying your mistakes. Make a mental highlight reel of what is working. Get yourself excited about life and take on the next day with gusto.
- Sequels: When a movie becomes a blockbuster we can pretty much rest assured someone, at sometime is going to make a sequel or something similar. Your job: Find out what is working for you and repeat it. Find out what’s not and stop it.
- Costars: Few blockbusters center around one actor. Your job: Who are your costars in life? Need some? Find them. Lean on them.
- Turning Point: No matter how intense the action, nor how much trouble our protagonist gets into, we know, sweaty hands aside, that there WILL BE a turning point and things will start to improve. Your job: The same is true in life. As long as we keep working at it, things are going to get better. Hang in there. The movie isn’t over. The turning point is around the next corner or two.
- Crew: Amazing blockbuster movies are not made by a single person, nor a single crew of people. In fact, there are a multitude of teams working on single aspects of the movie. Your job: Figure out what people you need in your life to help you deliver the results you want. Do you need a trainer, nutritionist, counselor, special effects, a personal assistant, or someone to mow your yard to give you one more hour in the week? Figure out how to find them, hire them, and put them to work. Your life will become a blockbuster.
I hope these eleven hacks I learned from blockbuster movies really do help you design and live a more dynamic life. Which one is your favorite? Do you have one you’d add? Let me know in the comments.
I just finished reading James Clear’s Atomic Habits. I am thinking of reading Andy Weir’s book Artemis next. I am looking forward to his book Project Hail Mary being made into a movie, if anyone has connections. It was a great read and one of my all-time favorite sci-fi reads.
Always forward,
Kelly
